Pangaea moved across San Francisco Bay in early December to take up residence in newly renovated space in a downtown neighborhood called "Old Oakland".  Our new address is 472 Ninth Street, Oakland, CA, 94607.  Phone is 510-379-4003.

Pangaea joins friends and colleagues from around the world in mourning the loss of Ambassador Richard Holbrooke.  From his leadership in calling the first United Nations Security Council meeting on AIDS in January 2000 to transforming the business response to AIDS through the establishment of the Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, Ambassador Holbrooke was an outstanding global advocate in the fight against AIDS.

Pangaea CEO Ben Plumley stated, “In addition to all his extraordinary diplomatic accomplishments, Ambassador Holbrooke made a uniquely important contribution to the global AIDS response by forcing the international community to recognize the threat AIDS poses to global security, and by mobilizing the corporate world to join the fight against HIV. He was also a profoundly important personal inspiration and mentor to me. The Board and Staff of Pangaea join the global AIDS community in sending Richard’s wife Kati and his entire family our deepest sympathy.”

Pangaea is very pleased to be part of an exciting new Discovery Channel initiative that will bring the science of HIV/AIDS to millions across sub-Saharan Africa.  In the press release announcing the new initiative, Pangaea CEO Ben Plumley notes, "INSIDE STORY is an important project, addressing a gap that our field has not yet been able to fill."<--break->

On the occasion of World AIDS Day, Pangaea is proud to announce that it has signed an agreement with China's National Center for AIDS/STD Control and Prevention (NCAIDS) to support NCAIDS' leadership in strengthening China's comprehensive HIV treatment and prevention response.

There are currently an estimated 740,000 people living with HIV in China. Pangaea has provided support to China's HIV/AIDS programs since 2004. In this new venture, Pangaea will be working closely with its long-time national partner AIDS Care China to provide technical assistance to NCAIDS to strengthen the integration of systems of HIV care and prevention.

Pangaea CEO Ben Plumley, who was in China last week to finalize the agreement with NCAIDS Director Wu Zunyou, said, "It is an enormous privilege for Pangaea to be collaborating with NCAIDS. We look forward to deepening our long-established commitment to supporting the people of China in responding to AIDS."

An in-depth PBS Newshour segment that aired on Thanksgiving Day entitled, Making AIDS Drugs Affordable Here and Abroad included quotes from Pangaea CEO Ben Plumley and board member Dr. Paul Volberding.  Ben discusses how things have changed since the early days of the epidemic and that drug companies like Gilead and ViiV Healthcare are increasingly open to pricing AIDS drugs differentially and working with Indian generic manufacturers to make AIDS drugs affordable in the developing world.
